Three Christian religious leaders, including the president of a Christian organisation, have been killed in India’s conflict-hit state of Manipur in what authorities describe as a targeted attack, according to Indian media reports.

The incident took place when unidentified armed assailants allegedly ambushed the group, opening fire and killing three individuals on the spot. Several others were also reported injured in the attack, though officials have not yet confirmed their condition in detail.

Among those killed was the head of a local Christian organisation along with two other religious figures, sparking widespread concern and condemnation from community groups. Following the incident, local organisations staged protests in several areas, leading to the closure of markets, government offices, and schools as tensions escalated.

Manipur has been experiencing prolonged ethnic and security-related unrest over the past several months, with recurring incidents of violence disrupting normal life. The latest killings have further intensified fears of instability in the region, where communal divisions and armed confrontations have already created a fragile security situation.

Indian media reports also mentioned that recent days saw additional militant activity in the region, including claims by separatist groups of taking control of an Assam Rifles camp, with footage of the incident circulating widely on social media. Security forces have since launched operations aimed at restoring control and stabilising the area.

Authorities have not yet released details about the identity of the attackers or possible motives behind the targeted killings. Investigations are ongoing as law enforcement agencies continue search and security operations across sensitive districts.

The situation remains tense, with officials urging calm while reinforcing security deployments in affected areas. Community leaders have called for restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation of violence in the already volatile state.
